Functional and Aesthetic Rehabilitation of Worn Front Teeth

The patient wished to achieve a brighter and more harmonious appearance of his front teeth. In particular, he was dissatisfied with the visible colour differences of the upper incisors as well as their shortened, severely worn appearance with minor chipping. In addition, the teeth appeared unbalanced due to disproportionate width relationships, resulting in an overall lack of harmony within the smile.

To create a brighter yet natural-looking overall result, the teeth were first whitened through a professional in-office bleaching treatment. Functional and aesthetic planning was then carried out using an individual wax-up, which was visualised for the patient in advance with the help of an intraoral mock-up.

The definitive rehabilitation was subsequently completed with veneers on the four upper incisors. In addition, the lower anterior teeth were rebuilt using composite restorations in order to functionally restore proper anterior and canine guidance.

Through this individually tailored treatment concept, tooth shade, proportions, aesthetics, and function could be harmonised into a natural and balanced overall smile design.

Functional and Aesthetic Rehabilitation of Worn Front Teeth with Chipping

The patient was particularly concerned about the pronounced colour differences of the upper incisors as well as their shortened and severely worn appearance with minor chipping. In addition, the front teeth appeared aesthetically unbalanced due to disproportionate width-to-length ratios.

The goal of treatment was a harmonious reconstruction of the anterior teeth with a brighter, natural-looking tooth shade and an overall improvement in both aesthetics and function.

To establish an optimal functional and aesthetic foundation for the definitive rehabilitation, orthodontic pre-treatment with Invisalign® was carried out first. This allowed tooth alignment and spacing to be harmonised prior to the restorative phase.

Subsequently, the teeth were professionally whitened through an in-office bleaching treatment in order to create the ideal basis for integrating the desired brighter tooth shade into the final restorations.

Based on a functional and aesthetic wax-up, an intraoral mock-up was then created, enabling the patient to realistically experience the planned outcome — including tooth shape, function, and overall smile aesthetics — before the definitive treatment began.

The final rehabilitation was completed with high-quality veneers on the four upper incisors. In addition, the lower anterior teeth were rebuilt using composite restorations in order to functionally reconstruct anterior and canine guidance and to support the long-term stability of the overall result.

Through the combination of Invisalign®, professional whitening, and veneers, both aesthetics and function could be harmoniously restored, tooth proportions refined, and a natural-looking overall smile achieved.

Comprehensive Functional and Aesthetic Rehabilitation with All-Ceramic Veneers and Partial Crowns

The patient wished to achieve a comprehensive improvement of both the aesthetics and function of his dentition. In particular, he was dissatisfied with the unbalanced tooth shade and the irregular shape of the teeth. Clinical examination revealed pronounced abrasion and extensive wear facets affecting nearly all teeth, resulting in significant loss of natural tooth structure and compromised functional guidance.

To enable precise planning of the functional and aesthetic rehabilitation, an individual wax-up for both the upper and lower jaw was created prior to treatment. As part of the reconstruction concept, a carefully planned minimal bite elevation in the lower jaw was performed in order to create sufficient space for the conservative restoration of the severely worn teeth and the re-establishment of physiological anterior and canine guidance.

Using an intraoral mock-up, the planned treatment outcome — including smile aesthetics, function, and the new bite position — could then be realistically visualised before the definitive treatment phase began.

To further optimise the overall aesthetic result, a professional in-office bleaching treatment of the lower anterior teeth was additionally performed.

The definitive rehabilitation was subsequently completed as part of a complex full-mouth reconstruction using minimally invasive all-ceramic partial crowns and 360-degree veneers. The worn lower incisors were additionally restored with conservative composite reconstructions.

Through this individually tailored rehabilitation concept, function, tooth aesthetics, and tooth shade could be sustainably harmonised while restoring the natural form, balance, and stability of the teeth.

Durch die individuell abgestimmte Behandlung konnten Funktion, Zahnästhetik und Zahnfarbe nachhaltig harmonisiert sowie die natürliche Form und Stabilität der Zähne wiederhergestellt werden.

All-Ceramic Rehabilitation of the Upper Front Teeth Following Orthodontic Invisalign® Treatment

The patient wished to achieve an aesthetic and functional enhancement of her upper front teeth with natural tooth proportions and a harmonious overall appearance. In particular, she was dissatisfied with the position of the two central incisors as well as with the pronounced loss of tooth structure along the incisal edges. Due to the significant retroclination of the anterior teeth, excessive front tooth contact had developed over time, resulting in marked abrasion.

To enable precise functional and aesthetic planning, an individual wax-up was created prior to treatment. Based on this treatment concept, an initial orthodontic pre-treatment with Invisalign® was carried out in order to gently reposition the anterior teeth into a functionally and aesthetically optimised alignment.

Following completion of the orthodontic correction, the two upper central incisors were restored with all-ceramic veneers to minimally invasively reconstruct the lost tooth structure and restore natural tooth proportions.

The final result demonstrates a harmonious integration of the anterior teeth with natural tooth anatomy, optimised function, and a balanced, aesthetically refined smile.

Reconstruction of Traumatized Front Teeth with All-Ceramic Veneers and Partial Crowns

Following a traumatic dental injury, the patient presented with pronounced fractures of the upper incisors. The goal of treatment was to restore the natural aesthetics of the anterior teeth as faithfully as possible while re-establishing long-term functional stability.

As an initial step, the fractured front teeth were provisionally reconstructed with composite restorations in order to provide immediate functional and aesthetic rehabilitation.

Subsequently, the definitive treatment was individually planned and carried out using all-ceramic partial crowns to restore the damaged incisors in a minimally invasive and highly aesthetic manner.

Through the precise ceramic rehabilitation, tooth shape, surface texture, and the natural light dynamics of the anterior teeth could be recreated with exceptional fidelity, resulting in a harmonious and natural-looking smile.

Minimally Invasive Veneer Rehabilitation of the Upper Front Teeth for Gap Closure and Functional Reconstruction

The patient wished to achieve a more harmonious appearance of her upper front teeth, particularly with regard to the visible gaps between the anterior teeth. In addition, function-related abrasion of the incisors had resulted in the loss of natural tooth structure and compromised anterior guidance.

To restore both aesthetics and function, the six upper front teeth were rehabilitated using minimally invasive all-ceramic veneers.

As part of the reconstruction, the existing gaps between the teeth were harmoniously closed while functional canine guidance was carefully rebuilt in order to ensure long-term physiological load distribution and stability of the anterior teeth.

Through this individually tailored rehabilitation concept, both smile aesthetics and function could be sustainably enhanced, resulting in a natural and harmonious smile.

Everything You Need to Know About Veneers – Patient FAQs

    • Masking intrinsic discolorations that cannot be corrected with whitening
    • Harmonizing minor tooth misalignments, including rotations and crowding
    • Refining uneven or crooked teeth
    • Optimizing tooth proportions and contours (teeth that are too short, too long, too narrow, or too wide)
    • Closing diastemas and interdental gaps
    • Reconstructing chipped and significantly worn teeth
    • Concealing enamel defects and enamel discolorations
    • Restoring aesthetics in cases of extensive anterior restorations
    • Creating a balanced and symmetrical smile line
    • Reducing excessive gingival display (gummy smile)
    • Optimizing occlusion and re-establishing proper canine guidance

Before embarking on veneer treatment, it is important that you not only understand the possibilities — but are able to clearly visualize the expected enhancement of your smile.

After an in-depth analysis of your smile — assessing tooth alignment, shade, proportions, smile line dynamics, occlusion, and functional parameters — we design a fully individualized treatment concept tailored to your facial features and aesthetic goals.

You will then have the opportunity to preview the anticipated final result, either directly in your mouth through a mock-up or on a detailed model. This process ensures maximum transparency and predictability, providing complete confidence before treatment begins.

At this stage, every aesthetic detail is carefully considered. The interplay between teeth and gingiva — the so-called pink–white aesthetic balance — is fundamental to achieving a result that appears harmonious, natural, and timeless.

Successful veneer treatment begins with meticulous planning. A detailed analysis of the desired outcome allows for a conservative and precisely guided approach, ensuring that only the minimal amount of tooth structure is reduced where absolutely necessary.

Depending on the aesthetic and functional objectives, the teeth are delicately prepared by approximately 0.3 to 1.0 mm. Temporary restorations are then placed, reflecting the envisioned final result and allowing you to experience your new smile in advance.

During this phase, adjustments can be refined until the ideal balance of shape, proportion, and comfort is achieved. Only after your full approval is the definitive design entrusted to our master dental laboratory, where your bespoke ceramic veneers are crafted with exceptional attention to detail.

Prior to final bonding, each veneer is meticulously evaluated for fit, harmony, and color integration. Once the result meets the highest aesthetic standards, the veneers are permanently bonded using state-of-the-art adhesive techniques, ensuring durability, precision, and a seamless, natural appearance.

Veneer preparation is typically performed in a highly conservative manner, preserving the natural enamel whenever possible. This is essential, as ceramic establishes an exceptionally reliable and long-lasting bond with enamel.

Once permanently bonded, even ultra-thin ceramic veneers demonstrate outstanding structural integrity. On average, their longevity ranges from 10 to 15 years. With meticulous oral hygiene and regular professional maintenance visits, veneers frequently exceed this timeframe.

What Are Veneers?

  • Ultra-thin ceramic shells crafted from high-quality materials

  • Permanently bonded to the front surface of the teeth

  • Designed for aesthetic correction of:

    • Tooth color

    • Tooth shape

    • Tooth alignment (optically)

  • Exceptionally natural appearance due to light-transmitting ceramic

  • In many cases minimally invasive, often requiring little to no tooth reduction

Who Are Veneers Suitable For?

Veneers are ideal for patients who are dissatisfied with the appearance of their anterior teeth, particularly in cases of:

  • Permanently discolored teeth (e.g., following root canal treatment)

  • Worn or shortened teeth

  • Slightly misaligned or uneven teeth

  • Small gaps in the visible smile zone

  • Aesthetic imperfections despite otherwise healthy teeth

Ceramic Veneers vs. Composite Veneers – What Is the Difference?

Ceramic Veneers

  • Exceptional aesthetics and translucency

  • Highly color-stable (no darkening over time)

  • Long-lasting durability (often 10–15 years or more)

  • Custom-fabricated in a master dental laboratory

  • Higher investment, offering superior longevity and natural appearance

Composite Veneers

  • Sculpted directly in the mouth

  • More cost-effective and quicker to complete

  • Less color-stable with shorter lifespan

  • Often suitable as a transitional or budget-conscious option

Non-Prep / Minimal-Prep Veneers – What Does This Mean?

Non-Prep Veneers

  • No removal of natural tooth structure

  • Only possible with ideal tooth alignment and spacing

Minimal-Prep Veneers

  • Extremely conservative, minimal preparation

  • Ensures optimal fit, longevity, and aesthetic integration

Are Lumineers a Good Option?

  • Lumineers are a specific brand of ultra-thin veneers

  • The term refers to a trademark, not a quality standard

What truly determines success is not the brand name, but:

  • Correct indication

  • Precise and comprehensive planning

  • High-quality ceramic materials

In some cases, ultra-thin veneers may be appropriate; in others, they may not provide the ideal aesthetic or functional result.
